have advanced at an incredible speed in recent years, and one of the industry’s
leading companies, BOX telematics ltd has developed the latest technology for
use in environmental applications. Using the company’s enviroBOX it is now
possible to wirelessly connect to an almost endless list of environmental
sensors, collecting data, and raising alarms when pre-defined events occur.
Typical
examples include the monitoring of water quality, level and flow, air quality
and ground conditions.
enviroBOX
can be connected to sensors ( eg SDI 12, 4-20 mA, 0-10V ) that measure water
quality parameters such as dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity and conductivity,
and store quality data routinely. In addition, it will send a text message to
nominated mobile phones when alarm conditions arise. So, it would not matter if
you were in bed, on the road or in a pub – you can still be contacted
immediately. Furthermore the data would be transmitted wirelessly to a remote
computer so that a complete record of events is logged. However, the advantages
of enviroBOX extend even further: - an output signal from the field unit can be
used to, say, open a weir, or to initiate an automatic water sampler. A similar
system might be used, for example, to monitor rainfall and to communicate with
other enviroBOX units downstream to initiate storm or flood management systems.
In
many circumstances environmental monitoring is most effective when data is
collected from a relatively large number of sites. enviroBOX is designed to
operate both, as an individual out-station connected to sensors, and as a
‘node’ forming part of a larger network.
