STATS win prestigious innovation award

STATS, a specialist consultancy with allied technical services, has won the ‘Development in Innovation’ category of the Lord Stafford awards.

BT, Advantage West Midlands, and Winning Moves sponsor the awards, and STATS were chosen for their work with Coventry University on a novel water treatment technology.

Water and wastewater purification plays an important role in many industries. Existing treatment technologies include filtration, chemical treatment, UV irradiation and ion exchange. However, Coventry University has a very simple, patented device that induces a rapid pressure drop, resulting in cavitation. This is a similar effect to boiling, but occurs without a requirement for high temperatures, and offers the potential for several advantages over existing methods.

STATS Ltd are working with Coventry University to conduct laboratory and on site proving trials, with the ultimate objective to create a product that can be released into the water treatment market.

The 2004 Lord Stafford Awards have been designed to stimulate innovative collaboration between businesses and University research and development departments.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, John Edwards, Chief Executive at Advantage West Midlands said, “By bringing together such a wealth of excellent academic reputations and diverse business enterprises, the awards seek to generate increased competitiveness, knowledge, support, growth and economic prosperity. Furthermore, in recognising the enormous value of such mutually beneficial ventures, the Lord Stafford Awards serve to continue a tradition of innovation and entrepreneurship”

Commenting on the award, Lord Stafford said “The winners are excellent examples of how a business can extract a University’s unique approach to developing new and better ways of doing things”
